Catwalk Genius Get Crowd Funding for Katie Eary

Catwalk Genius

THECUBE member, Catwalk Genius has achieved huge success in providing  crowd funding for up and coming fashion designer Katie Eary. They already have raised 93% of the desired fund and are looking for the final bit. This is an exciting prospect for the future of of the fashion industry.

To learn more about how to make your investment and how it works, please see below.

London based menswear designer Katie Eary is now participating in the first ever public fashion funding scheme from online portal Catwalk Genius. Eary will be applying her dark, boldly unique aesthetic to her debut womenswear collection that will be available to buy exclusively through Catwalk Genius from summer 2010. The collection will be funded through public investment and shares in Eary’s collection will be available to purchase from April 26th 2010.
Eary’s menswear has been attracting critical acclaim since the launch of the label as part of the Fashion East MAN collective two seasons ago. Her bold statement prints, fusion of traditional tailoring with streetwear styling/design details and macabre accessories are best described as ‘aggressively beautiful’ and her work has been attracting high profile admirers both male and female (hence the choice to develop a range specifically for women – fans currently include style leaders including Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, Courtney Love, Roisin Murphy, Sienna Miller and more).
The ‘crowd-funding’ principle adopted by Catwalk Genius is both simple and effective (it has been applied to other industries including film, Franny Armstrong’s ‘Age of Stupid’ being a perfect example of the success that can be achieved) The concept offers customers the opportunity to support designers and brands with a small financial contribution for a share of the final profit. Most new business ventures seek funding from sole or few investors who each invest large sums of money. Crowd-funding invites a wide audience to invest a small amount of money by purchasing ‘shares’. By doing this, the financial risks to each investor are as much or as little as they choose. The scheme works as follows:
- Catwalk Genius source and approach a suitable designer to collaborate with. The designer works with Catwalk Genius to set a financial target for funds they need to raise in order to produce a collection solely for the site
- Announcements for the collaboration are made and shares equating to the financial target go on sale through the Catwalk Genius site (in this instance, Eary’s shares go on sale on April 26h, aimed at raising £5,000)
- When all shares are sold and the target is reached, the designer is given the funding to design and produce the collection that (on completion) goes on sale exclusively through the Catwalk Genius site
- All supporters will get first option to purchase the new collection, as well as the chance to receive exclusive perks such as a visit to Katie’s studio, tickets to the launch and a free custom-made sample.
- At the end of the season, the revenues are split and distributed equally between the designer, the supporters and Catwalk Genius.

Say Goodbye to Office Space

reverse

Coworking spaces have been gaining momentum since 2007 and they are quickly becoming the new way of working. It’s a format of working that even academia is starting to adopt as way to introduce a better flow of collaboration and concentration.

What makes Coworking space so attractive?

1. They spark collaboration, especially coworking space, which  have a diverse community, like THECUBE.
2. They give idea makers a sense of community and security. If you see other people taking the plunge to make their idea happen, then you don’t feel so isolated.
3. Gives birth to new skills by ‘osmosis’ in other words you learn by just being around new knowledge.
4.  Creates new neighbourhoods of knowledge, which can be used to expand mindspace, knowledge, and create new way of implementing your idea.
5.  It helps create new neurological connections. When we first learn a task or are exposed to novel information our brain thrives and creates new pathways of thinking as it becomes routine, it stops. By just being in a coworking environment will create novel experiences for your brain, which leads to better generation of idea.

THECUBE coworking space is based in Shoreditch East London and we offer a variety of services.

From Virtual office space, boardroom hire, meeting spaces, gallery, FREE events, and consultancy.

Josephine Chime

HOLD-ONTO-MORE-by-Josephine-Ada-Chinonye-Chime30-1024x678

Last Wednesday, THECUBE hosted Hackney artist Josephine Chime. The art has been well received and provoked humour and thought.

HOLD-ONTO-MORE-by-Josephine-Ada-Chinonye-Chime141-1024x678

Her beautiful and well rounded ladies have a sense of confidence, humour, and colour. The incredible detail in the pieces adds abstract perfection and has a mesmerising quality that leaves viewers transfixed.

We would like to thank The Firm and Josephine Chime for putting up such a successful private view.

A DECLARATION OF ENTERPRISE

scroll

We’re looking at the psychology behind the potential for a double-dip recession. It’s not necessarily a numbers-issue, or something you can predict. It’s a mental state of society. Do we have the capacity to rid ourselves of self-deprecation and complain-culture, and start to pivot towards possibility, dreams, and enterprise?

After the first recession in 2008, people lost their jobs, graduates were graduating into a cold, unfriendly market. But as soon as 2009 hit, there was a tangibility that people wanted to change – people wanted to move forward. And there was talk of support for enterprise, support for graduates, and we at THECUBE were born out of this new attitude – although, we have been privileged to find like-minded people who are ready to be contributors to this new way of thinking, such as RewireLondon, Launch48, Not Just A Label, Creative Boom, Idea Generation, E-Rejuvenation Centre, ECCA, to name a few, we’re already starting to see  that there’s a dip in enthusiasm and proactivity.

Flashfoward to now: the dust has settled. Many organisations that had promised to deliver change and support, have not. If this continues, and we continue to throw our hands up we will surely drive ourselves into another recession, because we’re not building the infrastructure that will lead to new employment and development of industries.

To take JFK’s famous saying: “Do not ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” – we cannot just rely on the government to make it all better. We are asking for partnerships, collaborations and endurance from innovators to continue. We are also asking established corporations to step down and get into the grassroots and sponsor these innovations. We are asking people to put fear aside and dare to jump off the edge and go for their dreams. Only upon the attempt of an idea can you judge whether or not you can accomplish this, or if you are capable. You cannot make assumptions of your own capabilities.

If the Davids of this world are going to be fearless and embark on new enterprises, then the Goliaths have no excuse to be just as fearless in their support, incubation, and funding of these new ideas. It’s time for action and implantation, because it’s only through tangibility – real steps taken to secure our financial stability and growth – that we can prevent another recession.
