Lucy Mitchell joins THECUBE

LOGO_091109

We introduce to you, Lucy Mitchell. She’s our latest member, and will prove to be an interesting and unique addition to the community. She’s our first member involved in 3D Design (that is set design, styling, visualisation, brand experience), and for us it’s a pretty much new area. We’re gradually building a jigsaw of all creative industries, and we still have a few holes to fill – but we’re definitely getting there.

So, a warm welcome! We’re sure that if anybody has a brand that needs looking after, Lucy is the girl for the job. Her website is undergoing a rebrand itself, but if you want to drop her an email about working with her, it’s

info@lucymitchell.co.uk

So there you go. We’re looking forward to seeing Lucy’s new projects, or any collaborations that might happen here at THECUBE with our other members.

Doing our Bit for Green

workspace2

Green and Eco have not admittedly been at the top of our agenda; however we are aware of doing our bit in creating a workspace that is kind to the environment. Our coworking space was designed and built by Marcus Kilpatrick, who made sure that we had a low carbon footprint by using locally sourced recycled material for the furniture, including our work-lounge. All lights are turned off at the end of the day and in spaces that are not in use, we have a think before you print policy, which reduces member’s paper waste significantly, we provide free bike racks, and finally we recycle our paper by turning them into notepads.

These are not points that will revolutionise the way people work, however we feel that a lot of little things eventually do add up. The truth of the matter is that it’s expensive for small business or start-up to go completely green, however doing what you can, will make a difference, especially if we all pitch in.

CUBER: Jordanna May Gargass

Earlier on in February we received our second print-related member, Jordanna May Gargass.

Our first was from student publication The Gateway.

Jordanna has a background in parliamentary journalism. Her joining us at THECUBE, however, marks the beginning of her new enterprise. This will be a publication focused on politics, geared towards young people. She modestly dismissed it as “not very exciting” when I showed her around, but it isn’t that way at all. Political ideals are most exciting when they’re discussed, written about, and debated by younger people. The crusty, noxious air of the antiquated House of Lords, and Commons, is what’s “not very exciting” in reality.

We look forward to helping Jordanna with her new project, and we’re excited to see where it’s all going to go from here.

CUBER: Bracket

BracketLogo_small[1]

Alison Coward started Bracket with the ambition to give creatives the skills and tools to work collaboratively. She joined our THECUBE’s coworking space in November 2009.

Bracket works with creative practitioners (e.g. self-employed designers, artists, illustrators etc) to help them develop and deliver collaborative projects effectively, supported by the use of online tools.

Collaboration offers many benefits for the creative individual – enabling them to work on larger projects, access new opportunities, share resources and learn new skills.  Now, the availability of various social media for new ways of communication brings with it the chance for the creative industries to become even more productive and effective in initiating and delivering collaborative projects.
