CUBEAGENCY: 1977 Design

porfolioreview

We would like to thank Consurgo for putting together a really successful portfolio review .  Plus very special thank you to Richie Stevens and Paul Bailey from 1977 Design  for their insight and time.

Below are some tips to help graphic designers market themselves;
1. Create a niche market; do not try to do everything.
2. Pick your top 5 ideal clients and do detailed research on their industry; what publications do they read, what projects are they working on, what projects have they done in the past.
3. Network at events that house the industry your portfolio is targeting, for instance if you are looking to work with fashion designers  go to fashion events to meet potential clients.
4. Instead of yielding to a lower price if a client demands it, offer them a smaller package. This way your brand maintains its value.
5. Use every source available to market yourself as you never know where the job will come from.
6. Distinguish yourself from other designers by becoming an expert in your industry – start a blog.
‘ We want ideas, creativity, and energy when looking for a new designer to join our company’ – Paul Bailey

CUBESTART: minimoko new branding partner

minimoko

THECUBE is proud to announce their new branding partner, minimoko. They will be helping with next month’s newsletter, business cards, invites, etc. We are very optimistic that new enterprises can be successful despite what is being dictated by the economy. If you build a strong community around your business, people will begin to trust in your brand, which will inevitably lead to a strong client base.
In these times it is not about reaching volumes of people, its about reaching locally, how can your services help your immediate community? Following in minimoko’s example, create in kind partnerships with like-minded brands. People want to feel that they are making wise economic choices, they assurance, so a little taster of your services makes a big difference right now.

EAST LONDON DESIGN SHOW

Bloq - one of the many designers at the East London Design Show

The East London Design Show (ELDS) was set up in 1994 by glassmaker Della Tinsley and photographer Gideon Cleary.

Taking place in the area with the richest concentration of artists and designers in the UK, emerging and established designers apply to take part and are handpicked for the quality of their products.

The show profiles the very best of Britains product, interior and fashion designers – with many exhibitors using the event to launch new work , ELDS has become the place to spot design stars of the future.

Della and Gideon are the latest members of THECUBE and use a range of our services and facilities throughout the year to support the growth of their business.

Australia’s KeepCup expand to London

KeepCup

Abigail Forsyth and Jamie Forsyth - founders of the ethical ‘KeepCup’ – are the latest members to join THECUBE.

The pair have been working in Melbourne’s takeaway food industry for the last decade. In that time, they have both witnessed, and unfortunately contributed to, the rise and rise of the disposable paper cup.

As owners of a chain of coffee and catering outlets in Melbourne’s CBD, they were shocked to witness this waste first hand – and determined to do something about it. Concerned by our complicity in the corruption of the environment and unsatisfied with the reusable alternatives on offer, the couple designed the KeepCup.

The KeepCup is a sustainable, reusable coffee cup designed to reduce the massive waste problems associated with disposable coffee cups.

Abigail and Jamie moved to London in August, joining THECUBE on Commercial Street in East London, and are already making an impact within the Green community. Keep an eye out for them at the different markets and coffee shops in and around East London!
